Sakhalin Energy actively involves employees in charity programmes, having supported their volunteer initiatives for more than a decade already. There were so many touching stories associated with the New Year Miracles during this time! The company volunteers — Father Frosts and Snegurochkas — had so many interesting meetings when they were delivering gifts to children in their homes and in the social rehabilitation centres for minors!
This year’s campaign has been truly remarkable. The company received 169 letters — a record number! — from children with disabilities and those in difficult life situations, living in 15 Sakhalin settlements. Not a single letter remained unanswered, and not a single child was left without a New Year gift.
Despite the difficult circumstances, these children have the same wishes as their more fortunate peers. In their letters, the boys and girls asked for dolls, construction sets, home mini gyms, bicycles, and tablet computers, which they wished to get as a gift from Father Frost. Some of them were dreaming of getting a pair of pink skates, a bag of sweets, or an owl that would tell them fairy tales before bedtime, and some others would be happy to get a Magic Suitcase with an art kit, or a set of wireless headphones. When children wrote their letters, they sincerely believed that Father Frost — the main New Year’s magician — would learn about their wishes and grant them.
Any Sakhalin Energy employee could help fulfil a child’s cherished dream in one of the following ways — make a financial contribution (under the terms of the Hurry Up For Good Deed corporate programme, the purpose of which is to support charitable initiatives of employees, the company doubles the donated sum), buy a gift for the child, or play the role of Father Frost or Snegurochka. This year, 34 employees volunteered to participate in the mobile teams of ‘magicians’.
It is the third year in a row that the company has supported the #GivingTuesday global charitable initiative, whose organisers encourage everyone not only to do good deeds, but also to tell about them in order to inspire others to be kind and generous.
The Year of Volunteers will soon be over, but it does not mean that people will do fewer good deeds with the advent of 2019. On the contrary, the outgoing year has opened up new horizons for many of us, and helped unite proactive people who are always ready to help those in need. Sakhalin Energy will definitely continue to support charitable initiatives, because good deeds must be done together and out loud!
