New Year's Miracles, Sakhalin Energy's corporate charity campaign, which traditionally kicks off on Giving Tuesday, has come to an end.
The Company's employees have fulfilled the wishes of 164 children with disabilities and those from families facing difficult living situations.
Now in its eighteenth year, the initiative covers the whole of Sakhalin, from Aniva in the south to Okha in the north. The children wished for such New Year gifts as bicycles, tablets, construction kits, books, toys, musical instruments, skis and ice skates. For every wish, there was a magical helper.
“Throughout the year, we've been actively working to develop a volunteer movement within the Company: we've held two corporate rallies and outlined plans to establish a volunteer school,” said Marina Ee, Head of Sakhalin Energy's Social Performance Section. “Therefore, this year's New Year's Miracles campaign was met with particular enthusiasm and excitement.”
By the end of December, teams had formed within the Company to personally meet with the children. For a few days, geologists, engineers, ecologists, economists and lawyers were transformed into Father Frosts and Snow Maidens.
It was important not only to distribute the long-awaited gifts, but also to create a festive New Year atmosphere for the children. The corporate volunteers had attended a Father Frost school to learn how to interact with children with special needs and how to engage even the shyest and most modest ones.
Svetlana Inyavkina, the founder of the Dr. Clown charity movement, shared the skills needed to communicate with such children. Her main advice was, "Bring joy and wonder to the children!"
“The children were genuinely happy to see us. Their eyes lit up with joy and delight. My eyes lit up too −I received a huge boost of positive emotions before the New Year holidays," said Pavel Rudich, an electrical engineer at Sakhalin Energy, who acted as a corporate Father Frost for the first time.
At the same time as buying gifts for the children, Sakhalin Energy also raised funds to support lonely people with disabilities. The company's staff managed to collect 829 thousand roubles for this purpose. According to the rules of the corporate programme, the Company matches the amount raised by the employees. Thus, the proceeds in the amount of 1,658 thousand roubles will be used by the campaign's partner, the Future Together Charitable Foundation, to purchase equipment that will improve the quality of life for its beneficiaries.
