Sakhalin-2 Prigorodnoye Production Complex Celebrates Its 15th Anniversary

A wide range of events dedicated to the remarkable milestone took place on the margins of the Russia International Exhibition and Forum to close the weeks of oil and gas in the exhibition booth of Sakhalin Oblast.

The ceremony, which brought together the Company Directors, representatives of the Company Members and the Russian party, as well as students of industry-specific universities, was opened by Roman Dashkov, Chief Executive Officer of Sakhalin Energy, who welcomed the guests of the Russia Exhibition and Forum.

“Sakhalin Oblast has a serious competitive advantage: the region has successfully implemented one of the largest international projects, which has introduced a great number of advanced technical solutions, while preserving the unique ecosystem of the island. This has become possible after many years of joint efforts by the Russian Federation, Sakhalin Oblast, and the fully committed team of Sakhalin Energy. There have been many challenges faced by those involved in the Project implementation. However, with persistence, backed by confidence in our abilities and willingness to search for and implement out-of-the-box solutions we have successfully overcome all of these challenges under the Sakhalin-2 project. As part of the project, we launched the LNG plant that was innovative for the Russian gas industry,” Roman Dashkov emphasised.

The CEO expressed a special gratitude to the project veterans who had managed to find a balanced solution for its successful implementation amid the international financial and economic crisis: “This signals that we are ready to work with our partners in any circumstances and develop production, thus laying a long-term foundation for strong partnership relations.”

During the official ceremony, a virtual tour around the LNG plant was arranged for the guests, starting with a live broadcast by Ivan Shamonaev, Head of Prigorodnoye production complex. He reported on the current situation at the plant outlining the milestones of its construction.

“We rightfully hold the title of the industry pioneer and prove it by deeds. More than 150 million tonnes of LNG has been shipped since the launch of the plant, while Sakhalin LNG continues to strengthen Russia's position in the global energy market, protecting the country's technological sovereignty. Today, as the plant supplies about 2.5% of the global LNG volume and covers about 4% of the Asia-Pacific LNG market, we can proudly state that the ambitious goals set for us in 2009 have been achieved,” Ivan Shamonaev said summarising the 15 years of successful operation.

The LNG plant's steady operation ensures not only the growth of the regional fuel and energy complex, but also the economic sustainability of the region, allowing the Company to solve critical tasks for the improvement of people's quality of life.

“I am proud that our region hosts Sakhalin Energy, a company that has been contributing significantly to its social and economic development. Even in difficult times, the Sakhalin-2 project has continued its operation and remains a driver of the region's economic growth at different stages of its development. The credit for this goes to the Company’s management and employees. I believe that Sakhalin Energy will become the general operator for offshore field development and LNG production, and the region is interested in the sustainable development of the Sakhalin-2 project,” Valery Limarenko, Sakhalin Oblast Governor, stressed in his video message.

A concert by Vitaly Aksenov, a famous Russian musician, poet and composer, was a special gift for the guests of the ceremony.
