The Company was shortlisted for the 2023−2024 Our Contribution national award and confirmed its status as a partner of Russia’s National projects, where it has been a participant since 2020.
There were 219 companies nominated in 2024 in various categories. Sakhalin Energy is one of the leaders in the top quartile of the Major Regional Business category.
The award was established for the contribution of business and non-profit organisations to the achievement of national goals and the implementation of Russia’s national projects, which are aimed at comprehensive development of the country and improving living standards.
The company's performance was assessed in several fields of national projects: ecology, culture, demography, education, labour productivity, and safe and high-quality roads.
Environmental responsibility is one of Sakhalin Energy’s priorities. The principles of environmental care followed by the company are in line with the policy of the National Project Ecology. The winner in this area was the Preservation of Western Gray Whales Programme aimed at impact mitigation and conservation of species diversity. It has been implemented by the company for many years and has proven its effectiveness. Experts estimate that the whale population is increasing by 4.3−5.4% annually.
Culture traditionally occupies a special place in the company’s interaction with the community. The winning project Sakhalined Theatre Lab brought together young directors, playwrights, and actors in an effort to make contemporary theatre focused on local events and interests. Another outstanding project in the Culture category was the Sakhalin Energy Laboratory. The experiment, during which the engineers shared the peculiarities of their work with the art community, gave a new spin to the creativity of many Sakhalin and Far Eastern artists and became the occasion for a whole series of creative events. More than 30 artists took part in the closing exhibition, more than 20 events were held within the project, and the number of visitors exceeded 4000 people.
Labour efficiency directly depends on staff motivation, and various corporate initiatives help to improve it. One of such events was the Peak Corporate Championship. The project included a continuous safety and health awareness campaign, workshops, business games, webinars, and competitions. This initiative has been selected as a model in the Effective Work section.
Two corporate projects were shortlisted in the Education category. Eco-weekends on the Gorny Vozdukh resort helped raise awareness of the environmental conditions in the region among more than 2000 islanders. The ‘Backpacking the Trail’ programme introduced nearly half a thousand elementary school children to the diverse natural world of Sakhalin Island during 60 themed sessions.
Safety is a priority of Sakhalin Energy’s operations. As part of the Traffic Issues Management project, systematic work is carried out with company and contractor drivers. Special training is provided to more than 1,500 individuals annually, and electronic certificates of compliance with the technical condition of vehicles have been introduced along with a system of automatic collection and analysis of road safety data. Safety rules apply both to work and to everyday life. The company contributes extensively to the development of a culture of safety on the road. The Company is continuously working in this field, implementing partnership project Safety Is Important! with young Sakhalin residents. The specialists conducted 55 road safety lessons for 2500 elementary school pupils and arranged an online quiz, in which more than 500 children from 16 districts of Sakhalin Oblast took part.
The Ski for Good Deeds, the Sakhalin Energy Ice Hockey Club, and the Regional National Sports Competition Among Children of the Indigenous Minorities of the North were incorporated in the Demography national project. These projects are different in content, but all of them are aimed at promoting the principles of a healthy lifestyle.
Information about all these projects is available on the website of the Our Contribution national award as the best Russian practices recommended for replication.
