The presentation of the 15th ‘anniversary’ document coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Sakhalin-2 project, the pioneer of large-scale LNG production in Russia.
Held in the Company’s pavilion, which showcases cutting-edge Russian oil and gas technology, this event was the first at the 28th Sakhalin Oil and Gas Far Eastern Energy Forum.
The event was attended by the Company’s key stakeholders, including government officials, contractors, partners in social and environmental programmes, members of the scientific and expert community, educational and cultural institutions, indigenous minorities of the North, Sakhalin-2 project veterans, and future industry leaders such as students and participants in the youth track of the forum.
In her opening speech, Elena Feoktistova, Managing Director for Corporate Responsibility, Sustainable Development and Social Entrepreneurship at RUIE, highlighted the importance of Sakhalin Energy’s contribution to the sustainable development of the region. She stated that a social report provides an in-depth portrayal of a company’s public image, with its availability to the public symbolising a commitment to open dialogue.
“Business is indeed a powerful driver of community progress, especially when as large, responsible, and transparent as Sakhalin Energy. I think it is very important to reflect not only on past achievements but also on future plans of the Company to implement best practices, which are not just national but globally recognised,” Elena Feoktistova added. She also proposed including a review of the Company’s performance over several years to offer a more comprehensive view of its positive regional impact.
The Sakhalin-2 project operator gives special focus to the youth agenda. Therefore, young professionals from the Company delivered speeches to the guests. This new approach to the presentation of the Report caught attention of Svetlana Gerasimova, Head of the Sustainable Development Strategies and Practices Project Office, who believes it underscores the Company’s future-oriented approach. She also praised Sakhalin Energy’s commitment to sustainable development principles, aligning with national projects. This year, Sakhalin Energy became a partner for six of them.
During the presentation, the Company’s young specialists reported on achievements from 2023 and the first half of 2024 across the Company’s key business areas. They all align with the “Link of Times. Time of the Firsts” theme of the Report, developed in accordance with Global Sustainability Reporting Initiative standards and ESG criteria, which can be used to assess the social responsibility of business, notably in developing the Company’s main asset, human resources.
Over 30 years, the project has cultivated one of the industry’s most seasoned teams. Passing on this experience and knowledge to the younger generation is vital. That is why creating a succession pool and supporting emerging talents is a core mission for Sakhalin Energy.
Concluding the event, which followed an ‘open’ industry format, the Sakhalin-2 project operator held a traditional dialogue session with stakeholders. Having got an insight into the business of a strategic Russian company, those participating in the youth track of the energy forum took a keen interest in literally everything, including corporate programmes for graduates, internship opportunities, and the overall Company’s HR strategy. They enquired about leveraging creative industries and environmental sustainability. Technical experts of Sakhalin Energy were also asked about the scope and significance of Russian Content in the project.
All feedback and recommendations from the event will be incorporated into the 2024 Report.
