The World of Nivkhs Exhibition in Saint Petersburg

For the first time in the history of Sakhalin culture, artefacts and works of art from the collections of regional and municipal museums, telling about rich traditions of the island indigenous peoples, will be exhibited at the country's largest museum in St. Petersburg.

The State Russian Museum and the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum with the support of Sakhalin Energy present The World of Nivkhs Exhibition Project.

The main part of the exhibition – the works of artists from the collections of the Sakhalin Museums were first shown within the framework of “Preservation and Promotion of Cultural and Linguistic Heritage of Sakhalin Nivkhs” project dedicated to Vladimir Sangi's 80th anniversary in November 2015. The exhibition on Sakhalin island arouse visitors` interest.

The World of Nivkhs, the new exhibition project, contributes to the prestige of the cultural institutions of Sakhalin and the formation of a common cultural space in Russia.

The planned exhibition events include a presentation of the CD with the fairy tales by Vladimir Sangi. The tales were recorded in the Nivkh language, told by the author himself, and in Russian, read by well-known Russian actors.

A number of round tables, lectures, and workshops will also be held as part of the project. Information about all the events will be available on the web-page.

The Preservation and Promotion of Cultural and Linguistic Heritage of Sakhalin Nivkhs project was implemented by Sakhalin Energy in cooperation with the Government of the Sakhalin Oblast, and was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Nivkh classic writer Vladimir Sangi. On 17 November 2016, the project was announced the prize winner of the IX International Corporate Projects Contest "People Investor: Companies Investing in People" in the category "Development of Local Communities and Volunteer Activities".

The exhibition will last from 30 November 2016 till 1 March 2017
